Root Canal Treatment For Kids in New Orleans, LA

New Orleans Pediatric Root Canal Treatment

At NOLA Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that dental pain can be stressful for children and parents alike. Our compassionate team provides gentle, effective root canal treatments in New Orleans, LA designed specifically for young patients. Whether due to injury, decay, or infection, we ensure your child receives the best care possible to restore their oral health and comfort.

Root canals aren’t just for adults. Children can also experience tooth infections or damage that require root canal therapy to save the affected tooth. At NOLA Pediatric Dentistry, our pediatric root canal treatments are carefully performed using child-friendly techniques to make the process as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

We use advanced technology and sedation options to ensure your child feels at ease during their visit. Our goal is to eliminate pain, preserve natural teeth, and help your child maintain a healthy, beautiful smile.

What Is A Root Canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat and save a tooth that has become infected or severely decayed. During the procedure, the infected pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth) is removed, the area is cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed to prevent further infection.

For children, root canals are typically performed on primary (baby) teeth or young permanent teeth. Preserving these teeth is essential for proper speech development, chewing, and maintaining alignment for future adult teeth.

Do Children in New Orleans Really Need Root Canals?

Do Children Really Need Root Canals?

Yes, in some cases, children do need root canals. While baby teeth eventually fall out, they play a crucial role in your child’s oral development. Baby teeth help guide the eruption of permanent teeth and support healthy chewing, speech, and jaw development.

When a baby tooth becomes infected or damaged, extracting it prematurely can lead to problems such as:

  • Speech difficulties
  • Misalignment of permanent teeth
  • Difficulty chewing properly
  • Jaw development issues

Performing a root canal on a baby tooth allows us to save the tooth until it naturally falls out, ensuring your child’s mouth develops properly. If the infection affects a permanent tooth, timely treatment is essential to prevent further damage and preserve the tooth for life.

Benefits of Pediatric Root Canal Treatment

Choosing professional root canal treatment at NOLA Pediatric Dentistry offers several important benefits, including:

  • Pain Relief — A root canal effectively eliminates pain caused by deep decay, trauma, or infection.
  • Tooth Preservation — Saving a natural tooth helps maintain normal function and alignment, which is especially important for developing mouths.
  • Preventing Spread of Infection — Proper treatment prevents the infection from spreading to other teeth or areas of the mouth.
  • Long-Term Oral Health — Early intervention can protect surrounding teeth and support overall dental health as your child grows.
  • Boosted Confidence — Relief from pain and restored dental function can significantly improve your child’s comfort and confidence.

Signs Your Child May Need A Root Canal

It’s important to recognize the signs that your child may require a root canal. Schedule an appointment if you notice:

  • Persistent tooth pain or sensitivity.
  • Swelling or tenderness around the gums.
  • A tooth that has darkened or changed color.
  • Severe decay or damage to a tooth.
  • Pain when chewing or biting.

Anna T.
The BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! When we walked in she was greeted by a sign with her name on it. My daughter was given the respect and attention a patient should receive. They explained everything so clearly to her . The staff went out of their way to help me with the insurance issue I was having…out of all the dentists we’ve seen ,Dr. Chris was the only One to identify that she has a tongue tie and was able to set up appointments for the speech therapist and orthodontist and reassured us that they all work close together. He created a plan tailored for her and seemed genuinely interested in helping her. He explained in detail what I am to expect for the tongue tie fix she needs. And They even gave her a “welcome” bag filled with a brand new shirt, a rubber ducky, toothpaste and toothbrush. 10 out of 10 would recommend switching to Dr. Chris and his team! They are very knowledgeable and kind hearted !
Response from the owner:Anna, thank you for your wonderful review! We are passionate about not only screening for cavities, but also assessing each child's growth and development and screening for any soft tissue abnormalities that could impact other aspects of life. We are happy to be your daughter's pediatric dentist and also look forward to helping improve your daughter's quality of life. See you soon! -Dr. Kris
